If you feed your dog raw pet food, this is something you need to know about right now. Raaw Energy, a raw frozen dog food company, has expanded its recall to include dozens of products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria capable of causing serious illness in both animals and the humans who care for them.

According to the FDA, the recall covers frozen dog food products manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025, as well as one batch of “Beef and Turkey Medley” dated March 31, 2026. The affected products were sold in clear plastic tubes inside brown cardboard boxes, in both two-pound and five-pound sizes, and were distributed through the company’s website and pickup locations across nine states including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Virginia. Varieties in the recall include “Beef and Chicken,” “Chicken Medley,” “Hybrid Dog’s Best Friend,” and several others.

What makes this situation especially important to understand is how quietly listeria can cause harm. Pets exposed to contaminated food may carry the bacteria without showing any visible symptoms, meaning a seemingly healthy dog could still pose a risk to the people sharing a home with them. The bacteria can linger on surfaces like countertops, pet bowls, and utensils, making kitchen hygiene a real concern for any household that handles raw pet food regularly.

In humans, listeria infections can lead to fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, with severe cases potentially progressing to meningitis or other life-threatening complications. Pregnant individuals and those with compromised immune systems face the greatest risk.

Raaw Energy has paused all production as of May 21, 2026, while the company addresses sanitation issues. If you have any of the recalled products at home, the FDA strongly advises discarding them immediately and not feeding them to your dog.

Staying informed about food safety across every category, including what goes into your pet’s bowl, is one of the most powerful ways to protect the whole family.
