Animal Rescue Being Investigated for Neglect in Hollister, CA

In what has been described as the most extensive case of animal neglect in Hollister, San Benito County, authorities have provided a grim update on the distressing situation. Alyssa Bautista, the Animal Care & Services Supervisor of the Hollister Police Department, expressed her shock at the scale of the cruelty witnessed, marking it as the largest case she’s encountered throughout her career.

The distressing scene unfolded as authorities discovered 13 dogs, 65 live cats, and 31 deceased cats within the confines of a single residence. Even more alarming was the revelation that the individuals responsible for this neglect were purportedly running their own animal rescue organization, SBC Pet-A-Palooza Rescue Inc. The fact that those entrusted with the welfare of animals were allegedly perpetrating such abuse has sent shockwaves through the community.

Heartbreaking testimonies from individuals who adopted pets from this organization shed light on the extent of the harm caused. Liz Garcia, who adopted a cat named Kylo, recounted the anguish of discovering that her beloved pet required extensive surgery due to a previously undisclosed injury. Similarly, Julie Nguyen’s experience with her dog Kubo revealed signs of distress and behavioral issues, ultimately leading her to return the dog to the rescue organization.
