Baby bird being picked up in the grass

This Tiktoker was filming an entirely different video when all of a sudden, she spotted a baby bird in her backyard. The bird had fallen out of his nest and was waiting helplessly in the grass. Her ladder wasn’t tall enough to return the bird to their nest, so she researched a local rescue page and discovered the idea of making a temporary nest from scratch!

Using a small basket and a drill, this Tiktoker bolted the new makeshift nest to a nearby branch and filled it with grass to make it feel like home. She then carefully placed the bird in the nest as close to their original home as possible. Soon after, something incredible happened. The mother began flying back and forth to feed her baby! In an updated video, the baby bird can be heard chirping away and enjoying his new homemade nest.

From time to time, the baby bird will make an appearance and come say hi to his rescuer. Mama bird stays nearby as her baby is learning how to fly and become more independent. As each day passes, the baby bird gets stronger and braver. You can keep up with the progress here!

@haileyshighlights I have 100% peace with the decisions I made up to this point 😊 (will most likely be taking the basket down I’m not trying to have a bunch of boujee birds droppin their babies off here for a crib upgrade) 🤪 #animals #animal #birds #babyanimals #rescue #wildlife #nature ♬ original sound – Hailey

Spring and Summer mean nesting seasons for most birds. If you happen to find a baby bird who has fallen out of their nest, the best thing to do is simply locate the nest nearby, put on gloves, and gently place them back in the nest. If for some reason, you cannot find the nest, or it’s out of your reach, move them to a shaded area. Often, their mother will return to their baby, and don’t worry; your human scent won’t deter the mother from returning. You can also take inspiration from this rescue story and place the bird in a woven basket and hang it on a low branch. It may take a few hours, but you can watch from a distance until their mother returns.
