More plant-based food options? Yes! DuPont Nutrition & Health, a company that works with food manufacturers and producers all over the world to, “make food safer, healthier, better-tasting and easier to produce,” has launched three new plant-based nuggets.

The nuggets are an impressive 90 percent protein. They are soy-based and have a neutral flavor and a crispy, crunchy texture. The three nuggets are an extension of DuPonts first Nugget, Supro Nuggets 570, a nugget with a light, crispy textured nugget with a barrel shape. Now, three new nuggets have been added to the line-up: Supro Nuggets 580, Supro Nuggets 583, and Supro Nuggets 585. DuPont notes that the nuggets can be used in a wide variety of food products, such as nutrition bars, clustered cereal, and yogurt toppings.

“Consumers want products with simple ingredient statements and high protein,” says Jean Heggie, strategic marketing lead, Protein Solutions Business Unit, DuPont Nutrition & Health.

Demand for protein in the developed and developing world is at an all-time high, with the average person in the U.S. consuming 103 grams per day, around double the actual recommended amount, two-thirds of which comes from animal-based sources. This is a serious issue not only from a health standpoint (too much protein isn’t great for you either) but it’s wreaking havoc on the environment and pushing our already strained natural resources to the brink.

Globally, industrialized animal agriculture already covers over 45 percent of the world’s land mass, uses a majority of finite freshwater water resources, and is responsible for rampant air and water pollution – not to mention is the largest singular source of global greenhouse gas emissions. Even with all the resources that this industry uses, nearly one billion people still go hungry.

Thanks to innovative companies, like DuPont, it seems we have the answer to how we are going to sustainably feed the world’s growing population.

  1. I see that some posters will not buy these nuggets due to DuPont\’s use of GMOs. To which I say that it is more important to end the holocaust that is the meat industry than to worry about GMOs. The priority should be the well being of our victims, above concerns over GMOs. As you eat these plant based nuggets, you can work to replace the GMO sources with non-GMO sources.

    First things first.

    1. WHAT????? We DON\’T have to choose between our own health and the animal holocaust for pet\’s sake! There are plenty of plant-based NON-GMO protein packed snack for us. I DO NOT SUPPORT GMO\’S-DUPONT and I still buy all plant-based foods and encourage others to.
