For most people, playing in a muddy puddle of water doesn’t sound all that fun. For these four ducklings, however, it’s arguably the best moment of their lives! These adorable baby ducks have not led a typical duck life. Instead, they were born and raised as feed, confined to a tiny cardboard box. When workers from Earthfire Institute, a wildlife sanctuary, saw them at the store, they couldn’t believe the conditions in which these animals were being kept. Knowing they could not continue to allow these ducklings to live out this miserable excuse for a life, they bought them!
Having lived in such a tiny enclosure for their whole lives, the ducklings were understandably a bit disoriented when they first waddled out into the outside world. That is until they discovered their first mud puddle! Considering this was the first time they’d had access to a body of water, albeit a tiny one, the ducklings were quite excited. They stick their beaks in curiously, splash around, and relish in their new freedom. We’re so glad that Earthfire Institute got to these babies in time!
