Every rescue of a formerly abused animal never fails to make us marvel at the resilience of animals. It is incredibly clear that love can heal even the deepest wounds. In this case, it’s a short, but sweet video shared by Humane Society International that illustrates the brief friendship between Solomon, a dog rescued from the meat trade and a horse who lives with his new foster family.
Because of his rough past, Solomon had likely never seen anything like a horse before, but we can tell from his relaxed posture that he knows he no longer has anything to be afraid of. Not the human filming him, nor the new friend who greets him with friendly kisses. The fact that Solomon is so at peace in spite of coming from an industry that views dogs as commodities, confines them to small cages, and subjects them to a life of pain is truly amazing. Animals have the uncanny ability to not only help humans heal, such as a twice-convicted inmate finding peace working with former race horses, but to also help each other.
Like other dogs who share similar stories of escaping the horrors of the South Korean dog meat industry, Solomon seems to be enjoying his peaceful new life, happily soaking up the affection showered on him by his equine friend. Since this video was filmed, Solomon was adopted into a forever home, with a family who will give him the life that all dogs deserve.
