A 2-year-old dog named Kara Bella has finally found a new family after surviving alone for days following the death of her human. The Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) in Virginia responded when local authorities went to serve an eviction notice and discovered Kara’s heartbreaking situation.
After being rescued, Kara was placed in the care of the shelter. “She was very sweet—a little shocked, but kind and happy for her bath and the attention she received from our team,” shared Christie Chipps Peters, the RACC director. Despite the trauma, Kara’s friendly nature quickly won over the shelter staff, and she even passed a behavior test around cats, increasing her chances of finding a forever home.
Kara’s story touched the hearts of many after it was shared on the shelter’s Facebook page, prompting an outpouring of well wishes. Just days after her story went public, Kara found a loving new home.
“She is in her new home and thriving,” Peters confirmed. “We hope that she lives a long, happy life with her new family.” Kara’s adoption offers hope as shelters across the U.S. continue to work toward reducing euthanasia rates and finding homes for animals in need.
