A family who adopted a small poodle mix named Coco from Craigslist discovered that she came with a history of trauma. Coco, now 10 years old, was about three when they brought her home. Her previous human, battling cancer, could no longer care for her, and it soon became apparent that Coco had never known love before.
Coco showed signs of abuse and neglect. She was scared and timid, refusing to step on the grass, which the family later learned was because she had been confined to a cage all day. A visit to the vet revealed she was pregnant, but the puppies were terminated due to late discovery.
Henry, a family member, shared that neither the Craigslist post nor the previous parent disclosed the pregnancy. He speculated that Coco’s neglectful past could be linked to a puppy mill, given her extreme fear of men and various health issues.
Despite her troubled past, Coco began to thrive in her new home. She opened up to the family’s mother and sister more quickly and gradually became comfortable and accepting of her new family. Coco’s story, shared on TikTok, got 1.1 million views.
