We hear a lot about dogs being rescued from deplorable conditions that humans put them in, but sometimes dogs need rescuing due to accidents like falls. This seems to be the case for a furry little friend who happens to be living in Connecticut.
Rippy, a 30-pound terrier mix, and his human mom were walking along a quarry in North Canaan, Connecticut when the pooch suddenly disappeared. After searching for hours, the dog was seemingly nowhere to be found. But the next day, the animal shelter got a call about a dog barking near the quarry. They decided to look for the dog and even worked with a volunteer and a drone to pick up the dog’s heat signature. Unfortunately, an ensuing investigation turned up nothing.
On day three, quarry workers heard a dog barking during lunch and contacted animal control to get help. The agency took action and set out to find the dog with help from volunteers, firefighters, and the Northwest Regional Rope Rescue Team. This was no easy feat, as the dog seemed to be untraceable. However, after a long search and a lot of commitment, rescuers finally got the pooch after propelling 50 feet down a cliff and quickly lifted him to safety. After falling a whopping 50 feet down the quarry, it’s a miracle that the dog walked away from the situation without serious injuries.
Aaron Howard from Amenia Fire Company said, “It’s a great feeling to contribute to such a coordinated operation where volunteers stand ready to assist when people in situations are at their most challenging.” Lindsay Burr from North Canin Animal Control also chimed in, saying, “The rescue of Rippy couldn’t have happened without all the volunteers that came out to help.” She says the dog is doing okay after being seen and released from the vet.
