In a heartwarming story that has captured the internet’s attention, a 27-year-old from the Philippines has rescued a small kitten named Coco, found alone and covered in a sticky substance near their apartment building. With an estimated 60 to 100 million feral cats living in the U.S., many face a difficult and short life plagued by contagious diseases such as feline herpes, viral conjunctivitis, feline AIDS, and leukemia. Thankfully, Coco’s story is one of hope and compassion.
The rescuer, known as ikedness, initially thought Coco was covered in oil and intended to clean her before returning her to where she was found. However, a passerby informed ikedness that it was actually glue or adhesive. It was said that some kids had been playing with Coco, leaving her covered in glue. Concerned, ikedness took to Reddit for advice on safely removing the glue from the kitten’s fur and skin.

The online community came together to help Coco, suggesting the use of vegetable oil and coconut oil. After hours of gentle brushing with coconut oil and a sponge, 99 percent of the glue was removed. Grateful for the Support, ikedness decided to keep Coco, sharing updates with their online community.
Rescuing a stray cat requires caution and care. First, it is essential to check for an owner, either by posting in your neighborhood or having the cat scanned for a microchip at a local veterinary clinic. Dr. José Arce, formerly president of the American Veterinary Medical Association, also advises potential adopters to ensure they have the time, space, and resources needed to provide lifelong affection, food, and veterinary care.
Coco is now thriving, with a healthy appetite and playful demeanor, thanks to the kindness of strangers and the dedication of her new owner. In light of Coco’s journey, consider how you can make a difference for stray cats in your community. By supporting local shelters, fostering, or volunteering, we can all contribute to a brighter future for these feline friends.
