According to ABC News, this isn’t the first time the Bidens have interacted with the cat. Back in 2020, Willow actually interrupted Jill Biden during a campaign speech she was giving at a Pennsylvania farm. The cat’s owner offered to let Biden keep the cat, and it seems they got the ball rolling on the adoption!
ABC News reported that the press secretary for Dr. Biden, Michael LaRosa, said, “A farm cat from Pennsylvania, Willow made quite an impression on Dr. Biden in 2020 when she jumped up on the stage and interrupted her remarks during a campaign stop. Seeing their immediate bond, the owner of the farm knew that Willow belonged with Dr. Biden.”

The news of their new furry family member came after the controversy surrounding the abandonment of their rescue dog, Major, and their gift of a new purebred puppy, Commander.
The last time a cat was living at the White House was in 2009 when George and Laura Bush lived there with India, a black, short-haired cat.
