1. Tell the Parliament of Canada to Protect the Tiny Burrowing Owl

Source: CTV News/Youtube

The Burrowing Owl is one of the smallest owl species in the world and is found throughout open landscapes of North and South America. However, due to the loss of crucial ecosystems, these creatures now have a population of fewer than 1,000 pairs in the entire country of Canada. Now, the owl is even one of the most endangered species in all of Canada.

The Burrowing Owl is typically only 9 inches tall or less and is known for its long legs and short tails. Unfortunately, the population has plummeted in the last few decades. Much of the land that the species once used to find food has turned into plots for agriculture. Because the land is being used for crop production, the owls are also exposed to pesticides and don’t have the space to roam and hunt freely like they once did.

It’s time that the Canadian government steps up and acts to protect the precious owl species so that we can avoid extinction. If we don’t act quickly, they could be lost forever.

Sign this petition to tell the Parliament of Canada to protect the Burrowing Owl before it is too late!

2. Tell Australia to Invest in Effective Animal Cruelty Prevention Laws

Source: ABC News (Australia)/Youtube

According to PetPedia, every 60 seconds, an animal suffers from abuse, with more than 65 percent being dogs. This is one of the reasons that Australians are calling for more comprehensive animal cruelty laws. Increasing punishments for incidents of animal abuse is not only expensive, but it doesn’t actually result in less animal cruelty. This is why Australia needs to invest in effective and preventative methods for keeping pets and livestock safe.

Animal advocates are calling for ownership bans for people that have a record of animal abuse since many abusers are repeat offenders. Spay and neuter programs are also a great way to prevent unwanted offspring and can, in turn, help decrease animal abuse cases.

Unfortunately, simply punishing people for animal cruelty doesn’t do much to protect animals. Prevention methods are more effective and needed. The people of Australia are calling on the Parliament to finally invest in effective animal cruelty prevention programs.

Sign this petition to tell the Parliament of Australia to invest in effective animal cruelty prevention methods!

3. Help the Rights of Nature Movement Protect the Amazon

Now that Lula de Silva beat Jair Bolsonaro in the recent election in Brazil, environmentalists around the world are awaiting Lula to live up to the environmental claims of his campaign and finally give the Amazon Rainforest rights.

The Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature movement has worked in numerous countries around the world to give animals and whole ecosystems the same rights that human beings have. The results have been remarkable, and it’s time for the Amazon to have those rights!

After all of the destruction and years of deforestation during Bolsonaro’s time, it’s time that we finally step up for what’s right and protect the lungs of our planet and the indigenous people in the area.

Sign this petition to tell President Lula to enshrine the Amazon’s right to exist into law!

4. This Vile Pig Factory Was Finally Shut Down, Now the UK Needs to Fully Enforce Animal Welfare Laws

Source: Viva! Charity/Youtube

One of the largest pig factory farms in the United Kingdom, Flat House Farm, has finally shut down after years of animal abuse allegations. Its closure comes after a government investigation found that the farm was breaking the law and harming its captive animals.

The company came under scrutiny after an investigation by the animal rights organization Viva! revealed the nightmarish conditions on the farm. The footage showed cats eating pigs alive, emaciated pigs, and rotting corpses sprawled across the factory floor. The farm’s parent company, Elvidge Farms, pled guilty to breaching animal welfare and was fined.

This is a huge win for animals, but unfortunately, the fight is not over. Countless pigs suffered at this farm, and millions of others are suffering at farms all around the world currently. Now that the government has revealed this abuse, they need to keep up the momentum and look into other cruel factory farms that are hiding in plain sight. We need to push the United Kingdom to fully enforce animal welfare laws!

Sign this petition to push UK regulators to fully enforce the Animal Welfare Act of 2006 and save factory farmed animals!

5. Tell the Local Authorities to Require Counseling for Teen Animal Abuser

A teenager was accused of abusing his pet cat Harlow after he posted a video depicting the abuse on social media. The 17-year-old was charged with felony cruelty to animals.

The video shows the teen grabbing the less-than-one-year-old cat by the tail and swinging the animal around by the tail before violenting slamming him on the pavement. Miraculously, Harlow survived the event and was taken to the local animal emergency clinic. The cat was treated for head injuries from when he was bashed onto the cement. One of Harlow’s eyes was so badly hurt it will need to be removed.

This is clearly not normal behavior from a child, and it is extremely dangerous. This child needs counseling, and the local Lewiston authorities need to require it. The best way to prevent a person from doing something like this again is to get them access to therapy.

Sign this petition to tell local Lewiston authorities to require this child to get counseling!

6. Demand Investigation into the Kansas PD For Ignoring Evidence of a Racist Serial Killer for Months

Source: CBS News/Youtube

For months, Black residents in Kansas City, Missouri, were warning police that there was a potential serial killer on the loose who was targeting Black women. The police refused to listen and reportedly rejected the evidence.

That was until a woman escaped from the actual killer’s basement. She was covered in duct tape and chains, a shock collar, and actively bleeding. The woman ran to a neighbor’s home and revealed to police that the man has held her captive and was torturing and raping her. The woman also claims that he murdered two of her friends.

Even after all of this, the police somehow still are saying that all of the previous reporters were wrong. The police department even claimed that the reports were “completely unfounded…rumors.” Now, even it has an opportunity to admit to its mistakes and uphold justice, they choose to continue to dismiss and minimize the concerns of the Black residents.

The man in question was thankfully arrested and is in jail while he awaits charges of rape, sexual assault, and kidnapping. Investigative reporters revealed that the man is an unabashed white supremacist and has even posted online saying that he believes in a race war and said that “oppressed is exactly where [Black people] need to be.”

Why didn’t the police listen when residents were trying to tell them that something was happening? If the police had listened, lives could have been saved. Thankfully, the federal government is investigating the Kansas City Police Department for racism and treatment of staff and hiring practices.

Sign this petition to demand a federal investigation into the racist, negligent, incompetent Kansas City Police Department!

7. Tell the Chinese Government to Stop High-Rise Factory Farm That Will Slaughter 1.2 Million Pigs Each Year

Source: New China TV/Youtube

The world’s biggest single-building pig farm has now opened in China in the Hubei province and will reportedly slaughter 1 million pigs a year.

The 26-story skyscraper looks like a giant apartment building that overlooks the main road. The building is a pig farm that can slaughter 1.2 million pigs every year. However, this will increase the risk of animal disease outbreaks.

The building was the country’s answer to keep up with the demand for pork, which is the most popular animal meat in China. The building first began production at the start of October when they added 3,700 sows onto the farm. One of the biggest concerns is waste, which the company says will be treated to use to generate biogas. Farmers and residents in the area are worried about an odor issue once it is fully up and running at full capacity.

This is absolutely horrifying, and we do not need more cruel factory farms.

Dirk Pfeiffer, chair professor at One Health at City University of Hong Kong, told The Guardian, “The higher density of animals, the higher risk of infectious pathogen spread and amplification, as well as potential for mutation.”

We need to urge the government to reverse course and save millions of animals from horrific suffering, humans from more pandemics, and the Earth from the climate crisis.

Sign this petition to tell the Chinese government not to go through with this murder building and save millions of animals!

8. Demand the FBI Investigate the Colorado Mass Shooting at an LGBTQ Nightclub as a Hate Crime

Source: NBC News/Youtube

The night before Transgender Day of Remembrance, a gunman murdered five people and injured over 25 people in an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs. In less than two minutes, the gunman opened fire before a brave person tackled and stopped him before he took more lives.

This mass shooting is just the latest in the over 600 mass shootings that have happened just this year in the United States. This shooting came at a time when hateful anti-LGBTQ legislation is in talks, and the community is feeling the effects.

What’s worse is that law enforcement and prosecutors had the chance to possibly stop this from happening. The gunman was arrested last year after he threatened his mother with a bomb and other weapons. No charges were filed against the man, and Colorado’s red flag law was never used.

Now, the mass shooting is being investigated by the FBI, but we need to make sure that there is no oversight and that it is investigated for what it was: a hate crime. The gunman needs to be held accountable and we need justice for the victims.

Sign this petition to demand the FBI investigate the shooting as a hate crime.

9. Tell the FDA to Finally Phase Out Animal Testing

Source: Sentient Media/Youtube

Finally, the FDA has signaled that it wants to end animal testing after decades and decades of hard work by animal rights activists. This could save thousands of animals that are used and abused in testing facilities. However, the agency does not have a timeline on this, they have only so far requested $5 million in its upcoming year budget to research how to make this shift.

Animals in laboratories experience horrific suffering and death. On top of that, the animals come from breeding facilities where they often aren’t given proper veterinary care, food, or water and live in terrible and cramped conditions. The passage of this bill will be a huge step forward for non-human animals and society as a whole.

According to PETA, the National Institutes of Health wastes $12 billion annually on animal testing that does not lead anywhere. These experiments on animals fail 90 percent of the time! The research used on animals rarely correlates when it is tested on humans, making it a waste of money and unnecessary. Monkeys, mice, rats, and dogs are all used in animal experiments nationwide. It’s time countries ban animal experimentation altogether, as it also hurts humans.

Sign this petition to demand the FDA set a goal for ending animal testing and request more funding to make this goal happen!

10. Tell States to Follow Massachusetts and Ban Throwing Away Clothing

Source: WWLP-22News/Youtube

In a huge win for the environment, Massachusetts passed a law that outlaws throwing out textiles, garments, and other forms of clothing. It is now against the law in Massachusetts to throw out clothes, and instead, residents must recycle their old clothing and other textiles instead of tossing them. State environmental officials say they believe Massachusetts is the first state to ban the disposal of textiles.

In the age of fast fashion, waste is a huge problem. 13 million tons of clothes end up in our landfills, and fast fashion has changed the way that we think about clothes. It’s always best to recycle clothes and go to second-hand or thrift stores when looking for new clothing. This new legislation will help keep these things out of landfills and give them a second chance at life.

The new legislation also targets retailers who are widely responsible for the waste of clothing. Large businesses will be targeted in the state to do their part to reduce textile waste, while individuals are encouraged to recycle their clothing too.

Sign this petition to tell the other 48 states’ Environmental Protection Agencies to follow in Massachusetts’ footsteps and mandate clothes recycling!
