The documentary includes interviews with impressive scientists that share research and evidence for the emergency we’re facing that has changed the face of public health around the globe.

Coronavirus is only the latest in a host of zoonotic diseases, including swine flu, avian flu, MRSA infections and other foodborne illnesses. The documentary discusses the role of animal agriculture in these diseases.

“We hope that The End of Medicine is an eye-opening call to action and ignites a spark of willingness to change our habits,” Mara and Phoenix said in a joint statement. “The science is irrefutable. Modern animal agriculture will continue to make us sick if we don’t radically change our patterns of consumption.”

Both Phoenix and Mara are known for the animal activism, Phoenix had a busy animal activism schedule during the 2019 awards season, where he was nominated for his role in Joker. Mara has done undercover investigations in England and often joins Phoenix at protests. The couple is also expecting their first child in 2020. Production is scheduled to finish at the end of 2020.
