Disney theme park lines are exhausting for anyone, but for disabled guests they can be physically unbearable. For over a decade, Disney’s Disability Access Service helped people who could not safely wait in long queues. Now, Disney is sharply limiting this program, requiring interviews with staff and a Disney contracted medical provider. Even people with serious disabilities are allegedly being told they are not eligible.
According to reporting by AP News, a woman with an ileostomy bag who cannot stand for long periods was denied a DAS pass. Her 25 year old son, who is blind, autistic, and has cerebral palsy, was also denied. Disney created DAS to recognize that some people need accommodations to participate safely. Narrowing access undermines that purpose and makes disabled lives harder.
Accessibility, dignity, and compassion matter across all justice movements. Sign the petition now to demand Disney reverse these restrictions. Sign the petition now to defend disabled guests. Sign the petition now and demand humane access.
