Nearly 3,000 cows were trapped at sea for more than two months after a shipment between Uruguay and Turkey was halted due to missing or incorrect health records. Around 1,400 of these cows were pregnant. Many animals died during the journey, and many calves were born or went missing under horrific conditions. This suffering is not an accident. It is an expected outcome of the live animal export trade.

Reports allege that around 150 calves were born on the ship, yet only about 50 were accounted for. Live exports routinely subject animals to overcrowding, extreme temperatures, hunger, dehydration, and little to no veterinary care. More than one billion animals are transported this way every year, all for profit.
