Medical experts are warning about the increase in coronavirus as it gets colder. The potential “twindemic” of the coronavirus and the flu could be devastating to medical systems. As coronavirus cases are already on the rise, here’s what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones.
CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen said that coronavirus cases will increase for three reasons in the next few months, “First, the virus that causes Covid-19 is a coronavirus and other coronaviruses spread more in winter months. Second, in the winter months, the air is less humid. Particles that carry the virus can linger in the air for longer. Also, our nasal membranes are drier and more vulnerable to infection.” And the third is that people are spending more time indoors, where the virus can spread more easily.
Susan L. Polan, the associate executive director of public affairs and advocacy at the American Public Health Association recommended that people stock up on food and medical supplies to limit trips to the store. Because winter can also bring storms and power outages, it’s important to stay stocked up. Higher rates of flu and the coronavirus also means limited availability of medicine, so be sure to stock up on that too.
Make sure your house is well stocked with food and medical supplies, but also household supplies and cleaning suppliers. Long-lasting food supplies will be helpful if you or a family member gets sick, or if a winter storm hits.
