She enjoys coming up with new plant based dishes, taking pictures of those dishes to put up on Instagram with a great filter and some pertinent hashtags and then eating those dishes. Yeah, she’s that person. She also likes to tell people she’s been drinking almond milk since before it was cool, has a small thrift store addiction and cannot pass up a garage sale. She lives with her two kids, two dogs and husband in the wild west. Read more about JJ Dolm Read More

The lights have gone up, the decorations are out, and it officially looks like the holidays have exploded all over your house. Seriously, how awesome is it that your mantle now looks like a mini replica of the North Pole, or your dining area is awash in a sea of silver and blue? Admittedly, we can go a little haywire when it comes to decorating for the holidays, but they only come once a year and it’s just too much fun not to!
Which often makes us wonder, what are our poor pets thinking when faced with twinkling lights, menorahs, tinsel and mildly terrifying elves that reposition themselves all over the house each night? Here they’ve just dealt with all of the fall leaves, pumpkins, little beings dressed in crazy clothes ringing the doorbell and semi-comatose, football watching humans laying all over the house after a dinner that inexplicably started at 2pm. Now, there’s a giant tree in the living room with a stuff hanging all over it and a candle thingy that keeps growing a new light every night.
Obviously, being the awesome and responsible pet parents that we are, we’ve taken the proper precautions in setting up our figurative fantasy lands with pet safety in mind. We’ve kept any decorations, plants and treats that can be toxic away from their reach and took care to keep chords from being accessible. There’s no way to minimize the inevitable confusion an intermittently dancing Santa can cause, however.
We can’t know for sure (which is a bummer because being able to read your dog or cat’s mind would be a great ride), but in the face of so much holiday spirit, imagining that this is what might be going through our pets’ heads makes us smile. Smiling is our favorite.
