Give Us a Break! The Most Eye-Roll Worthy Statements About Climate Change
The validity of climate change has been challenged … and denied … by some rather prominent politicians, but when it comes down to it, you can’t argue with science. It might seem super complicated, but the more greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, the more global temperatures go up – hence all the crazy climate events we’ve been seeing recently. But despite how logical the science behind climate change might be … we still run into people who just refuse to believe the “hype” (i.e. fact-based science) about climate change.
Though we love to take the opportunity to teach people how their everyday actions impact the planet, some people just plain don’t want to change. We all have that one friend or relative who would prefer to believe that climate change belongs under your bed, along with all the other imaginary monsters. Chances are, you’ve heard some of their go-to lines that defy all logic … or laws of science, to defend their disbelief in global Climate change. Rather than bursting a blood vessel arguing, sometimes you just gotta go with an eye-roll and walk away. Haters gonna hate, right?
“There are scientists on both sides of the issue.”
Well, 97 percent of scientists agree Climate change is real … and human activities are to blame, but by all means, trust the other three percent.
“Earth has gone through periods of heating and cooling before … our greenhouse gas emissions are no biggie.”
Yes, but there is currently more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than there has been in the past 800,000 years. And if we continue to spew greenhouse gases into the atmosphere business as usual, Earth will be warmer than it has been in human history.
“Higher carbon emissions may actually be causing the earth to cool!”
If only! Actually, there is a lag between the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere and an increase in global temperatures. Throughout history higher carbon emissions have been followed by a steady increase of temperatures.
“Warmer weather is definitely a good thing.”
Climate change will create more temperature extremes, so there won’t be uniform warming – there will also be temperature drops.
“More carbon dioxide makes plants happy!”
Yes, it does. But like all things – too much is a bad thing. Not to mention that more CO2 means more erratic weather and higher chances of drought or flooding … that makes plants sad.
“This is all a conspiracy for scientists who are looking to make money.”
Let’s take a look into the amount of money climate deniers stand to make if they can convince people there’s no reason to stop burning fossil fuels or eating animal products?
“Antarctica has more ice now than it used to.”
Sea ice is very different from continental ice. Continental ice is thousands of years old and packed very densely, sea ice is thin and quickly melts. As water temperatures rise, more continental ice breaks off and becomes sea ice.
“There’s nothing I can do to stop Climate change.”
The eye-roll of all eye-rolls! There are many misconceptions about Climate change, but this is perhaps the most dangerous. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that livestock production is responsible for 14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, while other organizations like the Worldwatch Institute have estimated it could be as much as 51 percent. By taking meat off your plate, you can literally HALF your carbon footprint. Still think there’s nothing you can do?

1. Yes CO2 is higher now than in the last 800,000 years. But knowing we\’re in 3.5 million year global freeze changes the context. Prior to the this big freeze, CO2 averaged 900 – 3,300 ppm, and temp was a straight line 72F. It\’s currently 56F. 72F is Earth\’s historical norm over the last 570 Million years, so it\’s going to get 16F warmer whether Man is here or not.
2. The 97% quote is BS if anyone knows it\’s origins. 97% of climate articles noted Man\’s impact on warming. Guess what, it should be 100%. You\’re 98.6F, it\’s 70F outside, You have an impact. It\’s imperceptable, but real. Losers who quote the 97% take the scientist acknowledging the certainty of an impact of man as a claim of man being predominantly responsible for any changes, which is nuts.
3. All those looking to "solve" man made global warming actually do literally nothing to solve the problem. The only viable solution, if you actually believed this crap, is to use nuclear power to power a process that uses existing technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and convert it into gas and oil. This would create a carbon neutral system. But you\’ve never heard of this process? Isn\’t that curious that people who fear man is destroying the planet haven\’t been pushing for the one and only actual solution? More than curious.
4. BTW. Plant\’s would love more CO2 as they reach maximum photosynthetic performance when CO2 is between 1,000 – 1,500 ppm, ie way more food likely resulting in no starvation. But by all means let\’s drive a Prius which has the lifetime carbon footprint of a Hummer, that\’ll work.

Blinded by science? Read David Goodstein\’s book, "On Fact and Fraud: Cautionary Tales from the Front Lines of Science" (Princeton University Press, 2010). It discloses the fact many scientists commit deliberate fraud in an attempt to gain fame and fortune. Mother Nature may be subtle, but she does not intentionally lie. People do, especially if they\’re highly motivated by status and rewards.

So what do the scientists say? (and not the bureaucratic bodies funded by government grants, or the people indoctrinated by junk science and a managed media).
Dr Mike Hulme, a prominent climate scientist and UN-IPCC insider — "The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change misled the press and public into believing that thousands of scientists backed its claims on man-made global warming, The actual number of scientists who backed that claim was \’only a few dozen experts.\’ Claims such as ‘2,500 of the world’s leading scientists have reached a consensus that human activities are having a significant influence on the climate’ are disingenuous. They rendered the IPCC vulnerable to outside criticism.”

Prof James Lovelock — "That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened."
