Man Sacrifices Himself to Rescue Family Dog From Burning Building

An Oklahoma man is being heralded as a hero after sacrificing his life in order to save a family dog from a house fire.

The fire started early Sunday morning. Fire alarms woke up the residents of the house and neighbors called the fire department. Shortly after exiting the home, the man realized that the family dog was still trapped inside.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were told that the man was still inside the home. They found him in the kitchen and began to perform CPR after removing him from the burning building. The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The dog that the man went into save, however, survived and escaped the house. 

Around 40,000 pets die in residential fires yearly, with 500,000 pets being affected by fires every year as well. Housefires pose a huge risk to our beloved pets as it is easy for them to be left behind in the chaos.
