A fire broke out on the roof of a Greenwich Village apartment in New York City around 6 pm on Wednesday, June 28th. The fire spread quickly, going from a three-alarm to a five-alarm fire. The block was covered with a thick cloud of dark smoke, and a resident of the building, Melissa Dibbs, was frantically worried about her beloved little black-and-white dog named Finnegan who was still in the burning building.
More than 200 Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene to control the fire, and all of them are true heroes for their valiant efforts. If not for the courage and concern of the FDNY firefighters, Finnegan and other residents could have easily perished in the fire.
We are grateful to the FDNY for controlling the fire and for making this terrifying tragedy end on a positive note for Dibbs and Finnegan.
