Dog Who Lost His Home to a Fire is All Smiles After Being Rescued With His Toy Elephant

Nothing warms our hearts quite like a doggie rescue story with a happily ever after.  This one, about a loveable dog named Smokey, is sure to bring a smile to your face as big as the one on his.

It was reported Smokey’s family lost their home to a fire, and despite their efforts, they were struggling to properly care for him. When they brought him into a shelter, they were sure to bring his favorite toy with him – a fuzzy stuffed elephant with pink ears. Including a note asking that Smokey not be separated from his beloved elephant, his family was hoping for the best outcome.

Unfortunately, likely due to the extreme trauma of surviving a fire and the stress of being separated from his family at a shelter, Smokey was very unhappy.  He spent his days huddled in a corner or growling at visitors, and he was scheduled to be euthanized in March 2017. However, thanks to the kindhearted people at I Have A Dream Rescue Organization in Columbus, Ohio, this pretty Pit Bull now has a bright ray of hope in his life.

When Smokey arrived at the shelter, he was very depressed and spent most of his time in the corner of his kennel. His only friend and source of comfort was his cherished toy.

Smokey’s family made sure he would not be separated from his stuffed elephant. Describing him as a shy “wallflower,” Smokey required extra gentility to help him express his true personality. However, the stress he endured was causing him to growl and not be considered adoptable by the shelter.

After Smokey realized he was going to be leaving the shelter with his elephant and head to a safe foster home, he was all smiles. Now this face defines happiness!

We cannot get enough of this precious pooch and his smile!

Thanks to Smokey’s generous rescuers, he will be kept safely and happily at a foster home with his best buddy elephant until his family is settled and able to reunite with him.
