Firefighters, Police and Animal Control Officers Work Together to Rescue a Service Dog Stuck Under a Bike Path

Katie

11-year-old Katie is a service dog whose human relies on her and needs her. But something pretty scary happened when Katie took off running after a small animal while on an afternoon walk with her handler. They were on the bike path, he on his wheelchair with Katie beside him, but after running behind an animal, she got stuck in a drainage pipe under the bike path.

What happened next was an amazing rescue mission accomplished with patience and amazing teamwork.

As can be seen in the video, St. George Animal Services, St. George Fire, SGC parks employees, and St. George Police Dept all worked together to help save Katie. The police department specifically gave a shout out to Ofc. Allred of St. George Animal Services, who can be seen working really hard to help Katie out of there.

All their hard work resulted in Katie making it out safely! They dug up holes they’d have to fill back in and got down and dirty to make sure she was safe.

When they finally get her out, she ran straight to her human’s wheelchair. It was a lovely reunion!

Animal Control officers took Katie to be examined by a vet and gave her a bath before she was sent home. And she’s doing great!
