A hiker recently decided to brave the snowy Croatian mountains to take an adventurous hike, one that might have very well proven to be fatal if it weren’t for his sweet dog.

The man was hiking with North, his eight-month-old Alaskan Malamute pup, when he fell and critically injured his leg. This injury prevented him from being able to finish the hike and get to safety. Luckily, the man had two other hikers with him, both went to alert authorities that he was stuck and couldn’t get down from his hike.

As the hiker lay waiting for help to come, North stayed by his side. The pup curled around his owner’s body, keeping him warm in the frigid weather.

Eventually, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service was able to rescue to the man and his loyal dog and bring them to safety where he could receive medical care.

On the rescue team’s Facebook page, they said, “Friendship and love between man and dog know no boundaries. He [North] curled up with him and warmed him with his body. His loyalty did not stop, guarding his man for 13 hours. From this example, we can all learn about caring for each other.”

North’s owner called him a little miracle as the young pup had helped to keep his owner calm and warm during the 13-hour wait for rescuers, saving his life in the process.
