Deer Saved After Falling Through Roof of Home in Mumbai

Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) received a call a little after midnight on May 10th. Someone called from their home where an injured deer was laying after falling through their roof. Thankfully, the person’s first thought was to contact rescuers and not hurt or scare the deer. RAWW and Plants and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS-Mumbai), along with forest officials were able to rescue the deer in a matter of hours!

The deer was running from a predator when he had to make the scary decision to take a leap and jump. He fell through the roof of a house in the slums of Mumbai, but it turned out well in the end!

Rescuers carefully surrounded the deer with a net and removed him from the home. They took the deer to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park’s rescue center for a “detailed medical examination and rehabilitation.” The spotted deer will also be released back to the wild after his recovery to be with his herd.

Pawan Sharma, president of RAWW said, “The animal ended up in a tough spot. The joint rescue was completed amidst hundreds of slum dwellers who had gathered.” What a beautiful story of people coming together to save an animal in need!
