TikTok Dog Impresses Viewers with Well-Mannered Behavior

Doberman running on green lawn.

The internet is abuzz with awe and amazement as a video showcasing a remarkably trained dog’s impulse control goes viral on TikTok. Dog owner Lexx Marie, 30, posted the video, featuring her well-behaved Doberman mixed breed named Salem. In the footage, Marie demonstrates Salem’s remarkable ability to hold a snack in his teeth without devouring it until given permission to do so.

Uploaded on June 23 to Marie’s TikTok account @siriuslysalem, the video has already garnered over 1.5 million views and received more than 253,000 likes. Hailing from Las Vegas, Marie explains in the clip that Salem has been trained with exceptional impulse control. Consequently, he refrains from eating any treat until he hears his “release word.” Even delectable items like carrot sticks, crackers, and cheese are off-limits until granted permission.

Plz excuse his concentration face 😂💀 i taught this by 1. Teach strict impulse control with ALL food/treats/meals etc. and I implemented that into our daily routine. After they perfected that, i taught him to hold inedible objects & slowly worked our way up to low value treats & then to higher value things once he got that. (There IS tutorials for both impulse control & holding objects on my YT! I show a step by step on how to train them. Go check those out)

On TikTok, Salem’s owner reveals that she initiated rigorous impulse control training with all the food and treats her two dogs received, gradually incorporating it into their daily routine. As their training progressed, she challenged them further by asking them to hold food in their mouths before eating it. Sirius, Marie’s 7-year-old golden retriever, also demonstrates mastery of impulse training and features prominently on the TikTok account.

While Salem and Sirius make the task appear effortless, it is undoubtedly a challenge for them both. In the viral video, Marie jokingly remarks that Salem is wearing his “concentration face.” The astonishing display of willpower left many social media users in awe, prompting over 2,000 comments within a few days of the video’s posting.

Among the comments, one individual asked, “How can I teach my dog that?” Clearly, viewers are eager to learn and replicate the impressive impulse control demonstrated by Salem. Another user affectionately remarked, “What a sweetheart! The two smartest dogs on TikTok.”

Salem’s remarkable ability serves as a reminder of the immense potential for positive training and the profound impact it can have on a dog’s behavior. With dedication, patience, and proper techniques, owners can cultivate impulse control in their furry companions, resulting in well-mannered and contented pets.
