These Two Rescue Dogs Need to Stay Together!

This festive season the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is calling on compassionate individuals to open their homes to two inseparable canine companions. These resilient dogs, survivors of neglect and malnourishment, have forged an unbreakable bond through their shared ordeal.

Discovered at a property in Chase, B.C., in late October, the two female dogs were found in deplorable conditions, malnourished and neglected, all while caring for their 18 underweight puppies. The heartbreaking discovery prompted their rescue by an animal protection officer, leading them to the care of the BC SPCA in Vancouver.

Eileen Drever, the senior officer for the BC SPCA, expressed her shock at the dogs’ poor condition, describing it as unlike anything she had encountered in her 43-year career. The adult dogs were so emaciated that their litters of nine puppies each struggled to find enough nourishment.

After being surrendered, who rarely attended to their needs, the dogs were placed on a meticulous re-feeding plan, requiring veterinary approval even for water. The road to recovery has been challenging, but since their arrival in October, both mothers and their puppies have shown remarkable improvement.

Now, as the holiday season approaches, the BC SPCA has announced that the two mothers are ready for adoption. However, due to the profound bond formed during their shared adversity, they cannot be separated. Prospective adopters are encouraged to welcome both dogs into their homes, providing a loving environment for these resilient survivors.

Despite the traumatic experience they endured, the dogs have displayed wonderful dispositions and are eagerly awaiting their forever home. While the puppies will be available for adoption in the coming weeks, the BC SPCA is confident that each of these dogs will find a caring family.
