Heartwarming Transformation of Senior Poodle from Neglected to Loved

matted black poodle being groomed. Senior poodle rescued after severe neglect

As shelters and rescues across the nation reach capacity, it is becoming increasingly common for animals to be abandoned when their humans find themselves unable to continue caring for them. Sadly, this was the case for one senior Poodle in a rural area of California.

When Midnight Snack was found in a Kerns County field, the senior Poodle was in a rough state. His fur was overgrown, with painful mats. Additionally, the pup was suffering from dental disease and was undernourished to the point that his bones were visible. Immediately, the person who found him contacted The Kern Project for assistance. Although the rescue was full, they found a way to take Midnight Snack and help him.

Once he arrived at The Kern Project, the senior Poodle was groomed and his mats were removed. He was then transferred to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. Muttville specializes in finding foster and permanent homes for senior dogs, who can face extra difficulty in finding a new home. Once Midnight Snack arrived at Muttville, he received dental surgery and was neutered. After recovering, the senior Poodle became available for adoption. Soon, the energetic pup found his new forever home! Now he is in a home where he is loved and cared for.

Sadly, more and more dogs are finding themselves in situations similar to Midnight Snack. As shelters and rescues fill, people may feel that they have no choice but to abandon animals they are no longer able to care for. Rising rent, lack of animal-friendly housing, and increasing cost of living expenses around the world are driving factors in animal abandonment. However, abandoning an animal is never an acceptable solution. If you or someone you know is no longer able to care for an animal, contact local shelters and rescues. Even if they are unable to take them, other assistance is frequently available. This may include finding a shelter or rescue with open spaces, temporary foster programs, assistance with finding affordable animal-friendly housing, pet food banks, and low or no-cost veterinary care.
