A Tennessee deputy is under investigation following an incident in which a resident’s seven pets were shot and killed. Homeowner Kevin Dismuke recounted the tragic events, which unfolded while he and his wife were out for dinner.
The couple returned to find their pets, including one-year-old dog Poe, fatally shot. Three dogs were discovered inside the house, while four others were found dead outside. Dismuke described the heartbreaking moment when he entered his home, saying, “I go to open the door, step inside, turn the light on, and I stepped on him.”
The incident reportedly began when law enforcement received a call regarding allegedly malnourished animals at what was described as an abandoned residence. Dismuke, however, disputes these claims, insisting his pets were neither malnourished nor abandoned. A neighbor informed him that a McNairy County deputy was the one who allegedly fired the shots.
McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck confirmed that the deputy involved has since resigned, but questions remain unanswered. Dismuke voiced his frustration: “Why he pulled up and done what he done, that’s something I don’t have an answer for. I’ll never have an answer for it.”
District Attorney Mark Davidson and Sheriff Buck have turned the case over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), which is now leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
