Dog Named Magic Finds New Home After Being Shot in Face

When Magic was only 10 months old, he endured an event that was horrible beyond belief. In January of 2023, the German Shepherd puppy was shot in the head by a terrible human. The bullet entered Magic’s head above his right eye. Based on the angle, investigators believe he was looking up at the person when he was shot. Amazingly, Magic survived this terrible act of abuse.

After this disturbing event, Magic was rescued by Louisville Metro Animal Services and taken to the Kentucky Humane Society. There, the German Shepherd received emergency medical attention to save his life. KHS is the largest animal adoption organization in the state of Kentucky. After his rescue, Magic needed multiple surgeries and continuous medical treatment to treat his horrible wounds. Amazingly, Magic recovered from his injuries and was placed into a foster home.

The young German Shepherd was placed in foster care with a staff member of the Kentucky Humane Society. In his foster placement, the abused pup slowly began to recover. He underwent another surgery that helped repair his jaw, which had been shattered when he was shot and removed bone fragments from his mouth. The brave dog also began to learn to trust humans again.

After a few months in foster care, Magic met his forever family. As part of a program called Foster First where families can foster dogs for a few weeks before adopting, Magic went to live with Melanie Gilzene and her family. They quickly fell in love with the brave and resilient pup and finalized his adoption on August 10, 2023.

Now, Magic knows all the love he was once denied. In his new home, the German Shepherd is showered with attention, toys, and treats. His new family even had special t-shirts made in honor of him!
