Woody Harrelson Posts Heartbreaking Reaction to Dog Being Shot by Cops

Woody Harrelson made a post on Instagram recently about an incident in Trinity County, California, where a dog was shot by police.

A video of the incident went viral on Instagram and was posted by the account @trinitycountycorruption. The video shows investigators with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office leading a search warrant operation. According to the Instagram post, agents with the North State Major Crimes Investigation Team, a Law Enforcement Investigator with Cal Fire, Inspectors with the Trinity County Environmental Health Department, and the Trinity County District Attorney’s Office Victim Advocate assisted in the operation.

During the search warrant at  Nhia Yang’s property, investigators found Yang, who had dogs on the property. One of the dogs who was on a chain, was barking at the investigators who had cut the lock on Yang’s fence and were entering the property. The dog was barking and walking around and began to go towards an officer, who then shot the dog. According to the Instagram post, the dog was transported to a local veterinary clinic, where it passed away.

Woody Harrelson posted a screenshot of the video on his Instagram, saying: “In such a heavy world I normally like to keep things light, but this recent incident in Trinity County, California really breaks my heart.”

“This is a perfect example of something we never see, but that is a daily part of the absurd war on drugs, which is really a war on non-corporate drugs, and truthfully, a war on people.  Mostly nonwhite people,” Harrelson continued in his caption.

Harrelson wrote that the man, Nhia Pao Yang, “is a small, 72 year old H’mong, and a legal grower in Trinity county.” He said that the sheriff pepper-sprayed his dog, cut his fence lock, and when they went to arrest him, the “already brutalized dog reacted as it should.”

He went on to explain that just one step back and the deputy would have been out of reach of the leash. “I guess there was some issue with the county permit, but you don’t send 9 cops in riot gear with their guns drawn for a code violation.”

“Why is this unjust war against people continuing, even in a state where cannabis is legal?  This war continues because, like most war, it’s extremely lucrative for some.  88% of Americans believe pot should be legal and common sense tells you this absurd, money-making war never stopped a single person from consuming what they want.  The only real crime in this war on humanity appears to rest with the warmonger.

“Wouldn’t it be better to take the billions they use every year to fight this drug war and divert it to something necessary and important like regenerative agriculture or combating global warming or helping vets?  I could come up with 500 things that would better serve the country than this continuous brutality.”

This is an absolutely heartbreaking video. We need to do better.
