A man in New York City allegedly tied a German shepherd and a pit bull to the back of his car and dragged them through Long Island City streets. His excuse was that he did not want the dogs soiling the vehicle. Witnesses intervened and stopped the car, likely saving the animals’ lives. Both dogs survived, but only after severe suffering that no companion animal should ever endure.
The injuries were extensive. Their paws were torn and inflamed, one dog suffered a ruptured eardrum, and both appeared severely underweight. This suggests ongoing neglect before the incident. Despite this, the man is now seeking to regain custody and has described the abuse as a “lapse in judgment,” while claiming losing the dogs would devastate him.
