Ohio Animal Rescue Seeks Home for Senior Cat

In Seville, Ohio, an animal rescue is on a heartfelt mission to secure a permanent residence for a senior cat named Kathy. After a bittersweet return to the shelter’s care in March, Kathy, an 11-year-old white feline, awaits a new forever home due to her owner’s sudden onset of severe allergies.

The Medina County SPCA, Kathy’s temporary home, shared her story on Facebook, describing her as a unique older lady seeking retirement companionship. Despite the unexpected change in her circumstances, Kathy’s spirit remains undiminished, radiating cheerfulness and vitality.

Originally adopted from the SPCA in 2016, Kathy quickly endeared herself to her adoptive family. However, circumstances beyond her control led her back to the shelter, where she now searches for a new beginning in her senior years.

Kathy’s situation underscores a broader issue prevalent in animal shelters across the United States. According to Shelter Animals Count, 6.5 million animals entered U.S. shelters in 2023, marking a 4 percent increase from the previous year. Sadly, around 850,000 animals were euthanized in shelters during the same period, reflecting a 15 percent rise compared to 2022. Efforts to minimize euthanasia rates include adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation initiatives.

Described as a sociable companion, Kathy thrives in environments where she can enjoy a comfortable nap and independence. She currently adheres to a specific diet and prefers to be the sole pet in the household.

The SPCA reassured potential adopters that Kathy’s recent senior blood work indicates excellent health, promising many more years of companionship. With an adoption fee of just $35, the Medina County SPCA aims to find Kathy a loving home where she can embrace her golden years with warmth and affection.
