5 Times Roadside Zoos Abused Animals

While zoos have long been hailed as spaces of education and conservation, the reality is they are all needlessly exploiting animals for profit and putting their well-being at risk. In this eye-opening article, we shine a light on five heart-wrenching instances where roadside zoos have tragically abused animals.

1. Quebec Roadside Zoo

The owner of the Quebec roadside zoo was arrested and animal welfare took over. This was sparked by reports of cruelty, neglect, and poor living conditions.

2. Samutprakan Zoo

Coined “one of the worst roadside zoos”, Samutprakan Zoo is known for its exploitation of innocent animals. Most of the animals imprisoned here are chained up for their entire lives and forced to perform dangerous stunts.

3. Dade City’s Wild Things

Through this eyewitness exposé, PETA shows the horrific happenings behind the scenes at Dade City’s Wild Things. Here, dead animals are left on the ground tiger cubs are abused, and tigers are forced to pose for photos.

4. Pata Zoo

This roadside zoo holds primates captive in decrepit cages staged inside an old department store. The animals can be heard calling out for companionship. They have very little care and no adequate vets.

5. Deer Haven Mini Zoo

At Deer Haven Mini Zoo, many animals are kept in terrible environments trying desperately to reach grass for food. From overgrown hooves to tiny metal cages, the animals who live here are held in torturous captivity

As we reflect on these harrowing accounts of animal abuse within roadside zoos, it becomes abundantly clear that the entertainment industry’s insatiable demand for exotic creatures has far-reaching consequences. The stories we’ve explored serve as stark reminders that the exploitation of animals for profit can never be justified and that it is our collective responsibility to hold such establishments accountable for their actions. The need for stringent regulations, improved enforcement, and a shift in societal values towards empathy for all living beings has never been more pressing.
