5 Times Our Hearts Broke Seeing Dogs Mourn Their Siblings

As humans, we know what it is like to mourn the loss of a loved one. But, we don’t often consider how death affects our four-legged friends. Especially, how the death of a sibling can impact their mental and emotional well-being. Saying goodbye to a family member is difficult, but watching your dog say goodbye to their closest friend can be unimaginably heart-wrenching.

1. Missing at Meal Time

A human was feeding her pup the day after her other dog passed away. When she turned around, her existing dog took off into the backyard. There, he was trying to bury food where his brother was buried and crying the whole time.

2. Doggy Funeral

This family celebrated the life of their deceased dog through a memorial service. The guests included their other dogs, one of which was Odin. Throughout the service, Odin cried and walked up to the picture of his best friend, visibly mourning the loss.

After a human’s Rottweiler sadly passed away, she was sure to keep their memory alive with pictures throughout the house. In doing so, she noticed that her other pup, a german shepherd, would sit and look at images with a sad expression.

Wyatt was missing his sister dearly when she passed away. He hid in the closet while he mourned. Seeing this, his mom knew that he needed a new friend to play with. Luckily, they found the perfect match in Lenny and the two instantly became best friends.

5. Charlee & Harper

Charlee and Harper were inseparable — dog siblings and best friends all in one. This even extended as Charlee battled cancer. Unfortunately, she lost that battle and Harper began to sulk as she mourned the loss of her sister.
