If scrolling through health and wellness-related health websites is your jam, you’ve probably noticed that everyone seems to be talking about turmeric. If you’re not familiar with turmeric, beyond the bottle of bright orange powder that’s probably in your spice rack, it’s a member of the ginger family. But while ginger is spicy, turmeric is more earthy and peppery. It’s also reportedly good for you, which is probably why you’ve been seeing it on just about every wellness website out there. This little root is lauded for its anti-inflammatory properties, among other benefits. Or maybe your local cafe just added golden milk or a non-dairy turmeric latte to the menu a la the golden turmeric latte served at NYC’s The Good Sort. And if the fame of the unicorn latte at Brooklyn-based cafe The End is any indication, “wellness lattes” are really starting to gain some steam — P.S., they too make a turmeric latte. Unfortunately, if you don’t live in NYC or have a cafe that whips up the latest trends, you’ll miss out on iced turmeric lattes, but we have an alternative that’s so much better.
Say hello to the Turmeric Glow Lemonade, or what we’re calling the official drink of the Spring/Summer 2017 season. It’s sweet. It’s lemony. It’s even a little spicy, thanks to cayenne and black pepper (which helps your body absorb turmeric). Most importantly, it’s downright refreshing and delicious.
This summer-y wellness drink was created by blogger Shannon Leparski of The Glowing Fridge, a site where you can find heathy, delicious, and brightly colored salads, grain bowls, and soups, along with wellness and plant-based lifestyle tips. We totally recommend pairing her turmeric lemonade recipe with this Summer Zoodle Glow Bowl With Creamy Avocado Lime Sauce or these Roasted Cauliflower Tacos. Memorial Day weekend may be still over a month away, but the days are already getting warmer and it’s time to start treating yourself to some fresh treats that also just happen to be good for you.
Check out Shannon’s other recipes by clicking here or visit her blog The Glowing Fridge. Honestly, she’s like the queen of healthy, colorful food.
