Unfortunately, taxpayers fund unimaginable acts of animal cruelty, often unbeknownst to them. Through subsidizing factory farms run by Big Meat and Dairy and culling wild horses and burros for the sake of cattle ranches, as well as funding a plethora of laboratory experiments that use animals, the U.S. Government supports animal cruelty but masks it with varying terminology. And now a congressman from Michigan has called out the USDA for funding unbelievably cruel experiments that involve breeding kittens just to poison and kill them.
Republican Mike Bishop demanded answers from the USDA regarding the taxpayer-funded experiments conducted at the USDA’s Animal Parasitic Diseases Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland that have allegedly bred hundreds of cats and kittens, poisoned them with Toxoplasma, and killed them by incineration.
As reported by CNN, Bishop wrote a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue this past Monday, stating that he was “shocked to hear that the USDA, the very organization set out to enforce animal welfare laws and regulations, was treating the life of animals with such contempt.”
Bishop described the facility as one that “uses kittens as test tubes.” He continued, “Put simply, it creates life to destroy life … While I Support the objective of making food safer and protecting people and animals from infectious diseases, we must ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively, efficiently and humanely.”
Thank you, Congressman Bishop, for using your voice and position of influence to speak up on behalf of innocent animals! It is so encouraging to see lawmakers take a stance against cruelty, and we hope Bishop’s outspokenness inspires others to also speak out for Animal rights.
Alley Cat Rescue has launched a petition on Care2 to Sonny Perdue urging him to stop the killing of healthy kittens by the USDA.

Petition signed. With pleasure.
There should be a very special place in Hell for these so-called USDA scientists.
