2 cups (4, 1/2 cup servings)

Cooking Time




  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk until thickened and bubbling, but not browned (approximately 2 minutes).
  2. Pour warm milk in the pan and continue to whisk until sauce is thickened (approximately 3 minutes).
  3. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to the pan and stir to combine.
  4. Use immediately or if making ahead of time, place wax paper over the sauce until ready to use.
