A recent analysis showed that the younger generation is actually consuming more meat than ever. Despite the fact that they say they care about the environment and the environmental impact of the meat industry.

A recent study found that young people in the US and UK are buying and consuming more meat than older generations. With 19 to 30-year-olds eating more processed and red meat than those over 65 years old.

The study also found that 18 to 24-year-olds were consuming the most meat in comparison to other age groups.

Edwina Hughes, Engagement Leader for WRI’s Cool Food Initiative, said, “People always report themselves to be more virtuous and more ethical. And there is always a gap between intention and action.”

It is believed that this increased consumption of meat is a side effect of a lack of awareness. Although the younger generation may claim to care about environmental issues, they do not see their own place in it.

Stacy Blondin, WRI Behavioral Scientist, said, “We really do need to go that extra step to make sure the choices that we want people to make are available and affordable and convenient and tasty…and also to establish social norms around plant-based eating.”

This study was done in the hopes of uncovering the truth behind the younger generations’ eating habits and bring to light the fact that their intentions aren’t lining up with their actions. Reducing meat consumption to save the environment is more important than ever.
