JBS’ plant-based offering is here. The world’s largest meat company debuted its Ozo plant-based meats through its wholly-owned plant-based start-up Planterra. 12 states and military bases across the country can purchase Ozo Burgers, Ground or Mexican-Seasoned Ground products.

Like other plant-based competitors, Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, Planterra offerings are a mix of plant-based proteins. JBS‘ is a mix of pea and rice proteins, including fermented shiitake mushrooms. The products are certified vegan and GMO-free. Ozo is also cholesterol-free.

“Our team at Planterra Foods is leading you in the world of plant-based protein with all the flavors and foods you love most, and we are starting this journey with the debut of OZO™,” said Darcey Macken, CEO of Planterra Foods. “We pride ourselves in being an approachable plant-based brand and OZO™ is made so simply just like you would make in your own kitchen. We can’t wait for people to try OZO™ for the first time and experience the joy of eating good, nutritious food where taste is paramount. We are focused on feeding future generations and especially those looking to flex the variety of proteins they bring to the table.”

You can find Ozo starting in June in select grocery stores and directly through their website. Ozo will look to compete in the plant-based meat category. Plant-based sales grew 27% faster in 2020 compared to 2019 and 35% faster than the food category, according to SPINS statistics analyzed by the Plant Based Foods Association.
