Cuisine Innovations Unlimited has recalled their vegan crab cakes after it was discovered that they contained undeclared egg yolks.

Not only is this an outrage to vegans who do their best to avoid animal products of all sorts, but this is also a risk for anyone with an egg allergy, as they could have a life-threatening reaction to the egg yolk.

The Vemondo Vegan Crabless Mini Crabcakes were clearly marketed as being vegan-friendly, and no egg ingredients were mentioned anywhere. We do not yet know how exactly this ingredient seemed to slip by without mention. It is strange that a product so obviously marketed towards vegans would be created using egg yolk.

All of the vegan crab cakes have been recalled, and customers have been urged to return the product for a full refund.

As irritating as this mistake might be for the vegan community, it highlights the real risk of food contamination by allergens. Many people have severe and life-threatening allergies to certain foods, eggs being one of them. When mistakes like this can occur, it emphasizes the need for heavier observation on products claiming to be vegan, vegetarian, or allergy-friendly.

Hopefully, Cuisine Innovations Unlimited will recreate their recipe to not include any egg ingredients, so that their customers can actually enjoy a vegan crab cake product from them.
