Two dairy alternative companies have raised millions of dollars in funding. According to Tech Crunch, Perfect Day Foods has raised $140 million in financing and Califia Farms raised $225 million.

Perfect Day develops and produces animal-free dairy products. Ryan Pandya, CEO and Co-founder of Perfect Day said in a press release of the announcement, “In 2019, we showed that our manufacturing process works robustly at commercial scale. We were able to demonstrate with our ice cream launch— which sold out in a single day—that flora-based protein delivers on the dairy experience, and that people are excited about what we’re doing. Our focus in 2020 will be manufacturing and commercializing the protein in multiple continents, through multiple partnerships spanning different dairy product categories.”

Greg Steltenpohl, Califia founder and chief executive said in a statement, “The more than $1 trillion global dairy and ready-to-drink coffee industry is ripe for continued disruption with individuals all over the world seeking to transform their health & wellness through the adoption of minimally processed and nutrient rich foods that are better for both the planet and the animals.”

Dairy alternatives continue to take over, as traditional dairy producers file for bankruptcy. Oatly announced in early 2020 that it would be available at Starbucks locations. Dairy alternatives are now a $16 billion industry. Read all about alternative dairy in One Green Planet. Check out these articles:
