Update: On January 23, 2022, Switch4Good published an open letter to Starbucks in The Seattle Times, urging the company to eliminate the plant-milk surcharge in the United States as well.

Starbucks UK is ringing in the new year with some exciting oat-related news!

The coffee company is releasing a new and delicious oat beverage that will come in three different flavors: Strawberry & Vanilla, Honey & Hazelnut, and Dark Cocoa & Orange. All will be made exclusively with oat milk, as it gives these drinks their special flavor profile.

In addition to these oat-inspired new drinks, Starbucks UK is making dairy substitutes free all year long! Starting in January, the coffee giant will no longer be charging extra for any of its five vegan milk options

This is exciting news for vegans in the UK, as vegan activists have long been urging Starbucks to drop the extra charge for its plant-based milk alternatives. Recently, activists created a fake Starbucks press release stating that the plant milk upcharge would be cut due to dietary racism.

Starbucks UK also hinted that it will be releasing even more plant-based beverages and foods in 2022. This includes a plant-based “tuna” sandwich, brownie, carrot cake, and chocolate caramel muffin.

Now, it will be easier than ever for customers to try out plant milk as well as make more sustainable and humane choices. Hopefully, Starbucks branches in other countries will follow Starbucks UK’s lead.
