Starbucks announced new plant-based food and beverages on menus across Asia-Pacific region.

The new products feature Impossible Foods, Oatly and Beyond Meat, and will be sold in Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Among the many new plant-based products, Starbucks is adding the Maize Impossible Sandwich and the Spiced Impossible Puff in Hong Kong; Mince & Cheese Pie with Impossible Meat in New Zealand; the Impossible Wrap in Singapore; Beyond Meat Bolognese Penne in Taiwan; and the Beyond Meat Sandwich in Thailand.

The increase in plant-based food and beverage products are part of Starbucks’ pledge to become more sustainable by increasing plant-based options.

“This menu expansion is designed to offer our customers the same flavors and handcrafted service they know and love from Starbucks, in a new way. We’re excited to continue our journey toward becoming resource positive together with our customers in Asia,” said Sara Trilling, president, Starbucks Asia Pacific.

Starbucks is also adding two new seasonal plant-based beverages the Oatmilk Cocoa Macchiato and Almondmilk Hazelnut Latte in various Asian countries. According to Euromonitor, a global market research company, the Asia-Pacific region is one of the largest region for plant-based milk options due to long-standing traditions in local food culture.

“A new wave of plant-based food and beverage products are making inroads in Asia and will continue to develop over the next few years, driven by customer interest in healthier lifestyles and eco-conscious behaviors,” said Maria Mascaraque, Industry Manager at Euromonitor. “Plant-based options such as soy are strongly ingrained in Asian culture, meaning innovation is key to meeting the taste preferences of consumers seeking out new flavors and modern takes on traditional diets.”

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for plant-based protein foods has surged in Asia due to public health concerns about conventional animal meat.
