Growing your own mushrooms at home using toilet paper is an unexpected, yet great way to get started with mushroom cultivation. Although it may sound daunting, it is a relatively simple process that requires minimal supplies and can be done in a short amount of time!
The first step is to gather the supplies you will need. You will need a filter pitch bag, a roll of toilet paper, and some mushroom grain spawn. The mushroom spawn can be purchased from a local garden center or online.
Once you have all of your supplies, you will start by boiling some water. Once the water is boiling, remove the pot from heat and place the roll of toilet paper into the water until fully saturated. Once moist, remove the toilet paper and let it cool before placing it into the bag.
Next, you will need to sprinkle some grain spawn to the center of the toilet paper roll. Once the spawn has been added, secure the bag closed and place it in a warm, dark place. The ideal temperature for mushroom growth is between 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the mushrooms to incubate for about 4 1/2 weeks. During this time, you will need to check the container periodically to make sure the toilet paper is still moist. If it is drying out, add a bit more water.
Once the mushrooms have grown, you can harvest them and enjoy them in your favorite recipes. Growing mushrooms at home using toilet paper is a great way to get started with mushroom cultivation. With a little bit of patience and the right supplies, you can have your own homegrown mushrooms in no time!
