Camila Cabello recently called into Home Cooking, a podcast hosted by Samin Nosrat and Hrishikesh Hirway, for recipe advice for a vegan Thanksgiving.
Though she is not vegan, Cabello has been trying to eat healthier, finding her ex-boyfriend’s diet as an inspiration. Shawn Mendes is not vegan either but claims to have a mainly vegetable diet.
Cabello admitted that this was her first time cooking a vegan Thanksgiving meal and needed advice on how to make it amazing. She wanted to create a Thanksgiving spread that would satisfy both vegan and non-vegan guests.
Cabello said, “In Miami, I don’t know where I can get ethically sourced meat or turkey. What are some good vegan options for Thanksgiving dinner? This is going to be my first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Is there anything you suggest for a vegan dinner that some people in the family who aren’t vegan will still enjoy?”
The podcasters advised her to replace the meat in non-vegan recipes with Beyond Meat.
It is amazing that Cabello is trying to create an ethical, vegan-friendly Thanksgiving. As a huge celebrity, she is can inspire many others to do the same!
While there is good intention behind finding “ethically-sourced” products, it is important to note that “ethical” meat is humane-washing. Many facilities have been exposed for animal abuse despite carrying the label of humane and ethical. Plus, in the end, the animals are killed, which can never be humane.
Humane-washing is a marketing tactic to help meat facilities to look more appealing to well-intentioned, conscious shoppers. However, the only way to eat ethically sourced meat is to not eat meat at all and go for a vegan alternative instead.
This holiday season, be like Camila Cabello and make your Thanksgiving a vegan one!
Reducing your meat intake and eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health, and more! Unfortunately, dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer, and has many side effects.
For those interested in eating more plant-based, we highly recommend purchasing one of our many plant-based cookbooks or downloading the Food Monster App which has thousands of delicious recipes making it the largest vegan recipe resource to help reduce your environmental footprint, save animals and get healthy! And, while you are at it, we encourage you to also learn about the environmental and health benefits of a plant-based diet.
