Being vegan or plant-based can mean something entirely different to different people. Exploring how people around the world enjoy living and eating ethically is important. It opens our eyes to how accessible and versatile a plant-based diet can be. We’ve compiled eight of our favorite African plant-based bloggers that will make your mouth water with their delectable African-inspired dishes

1. David Olu: The Nigerian African

Specializing in Nigerian food, David Olu is all about celebrating food with color and flavor. He proves that the Nigerian diet can be enjoyed and savored while eating plant-based. The curries, salads, and grain bowls on his Instagram feature captions that range from how he seasoned his beans to full-on recipes so you can whip it up at home. 

David’s food would be perfect for nonvegan guests who are convinced that all vegan food is bland and boring. One of his dishes would prove them wrong in a heartbeat. 

2. Afia Amoako: The Canadian African  

Born in Ghana but living in Canada, Afia, who runs The Canadian African, is making rich and comforting West African vegan food. Her upbeat captions and infectious smile mean that most of her followers came for the food, but stayed for Afia! When she isn’t showing us the colorful bowls and plates of food she’s made on her Instagram, Afia is educating her followers on West African cuisine and the benefits of eating plant-based food. 3. Helen Mebrate: The Ethiopian African

Based in London, Helen from Ethiopian Foodie is serving up beautiful dishes on traditional Ethiopian flatbread, injera. Helen is a fantastic person to follow if you want to learn more about Ethiopian cuisine and culture and how to cook satisfying vegan food! 4. Fabiola 

Fabiola from Shine with Plants is all about eating an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains. As a mother of two, you’ll often find Fabiola talking about how she keeps her children well-fed on a vegan diet. Her Instagram is full of happy family photos and enough produce, smoothies, and salads to feed an army! Her Youtube channel walks viewers through what she eats on a daily basis and the joys of family life. 

5. Zuu: The Ghanaian African 

If there’s one thing we know about The Ghanaian Vegan, it’s that he loves food…a lot! Whether he’s frying up oyster mushrooms for a fried chicken alternative or sinking his teeth into a perfectly ripe mango, his Instagram proves that food and celebration go hand in hand. The idea that veganism is expensive is still prevalent, especially since pricey meat and dairy alternatives are often promoted by vegan influencers. If you’re looking for budget-friendly meal ideas from a charismatic young man, you need to follow The Ghanaian Vegan on Instagram ASAP. 

6. Paula: The Kenyan African 

This Kenyan vegan may only have a few hundred followers on Instagram, but her content is consistently high-quality and delicious. Her smoothie bowls look fresh and fruity and her cauliflower wings look crunchy and savory. The best part of her content is that the full recipe is written right in the caption, so you can scroll through and see if you have all the ingredients right then and there. 

7. Abdourahamane Ly: The Guinean African

Moving onto a bit of activism, Guinean vegan activist Fulanivegan is all about teaching people the power of veganism and fighting against Climate change, Pollution, animal cruelty. As an indigenous African, he’s passionate about speaking out against the harm that’s being inflicted on the continent. From chicken dumping to mining and corruption, he leaves no stone unturned on his Instagram. Check out his website here
