TIME and Statista have unveiled the list of the world’s 500 most sustainable companies for 2025, highlighting businesses that are leading the charge in environmental responsibility. The ranking was determined by evaluating companies’ commitments to sustainability and their achievements during 2023. This year’s list sees a familiar frontrunner, France’s Schneider Electric, which has maintained its top position for two consecutive years. Specializing in energy management software, Schneider Electric not only aids in reducing emissions but also provides consulting services to other companies on how to optimize their energy usage and emissions.

Other companies have also made impressive strides. Pharmaceutical giant Sanofi, ranked 10th, has shifted from using PVC packaging to more sustainable materials like cardboard. Their focus extends beyond packaging, with a plan to eliminate plastic in vaccine syringe packs by 2028. Additionally, Sanofi has developed a reusable insulin pen, which could eliminate the need for 50 single-use injectors.

Novartis, ranked 11th, has undertaken significant changes in its operations, such as recycling wastewater at its manufacturing sites. The company’s efforts also include reducing chemical waste and improving water usage efficiency.

Automakers like Ford and Volvo are also adapting their climate goals. Despite setbacks in the automotive industry, Ford has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, while Volvo is striving to cut emissions per car by 26%. Both are committed to progressing toward a net-zero future, with Volvo’s EX90 model incorporating 15% recycled materials.

These companies are showing that even amidst challenges like tariffs and production adjustments, sustainability is achievable. Their continued focus on renewable energy, waste reduction, and sustainable materials paves the way for others to follow suit.

To Support this movement, we must encourage more businesses to adopt such sustainable practices. The shift towards a more responsible and eco-friendly world is within our reach, but it requires collective effort and commitment.
