For Savanna Westerfield of Salt Lake City, coming home is more than just stepping through the door—it’s stepping into a world of surprises courtesy of her beloved 12-year-old Yorkie/dachshund mix, Mango. Every day, without fail, Mango greets her human with a token of affection. The ritual, which began around six years ago, has become a heartwarming part of Westerfield’s routine. Regardless of the day’s challenges, Mango’s enthusiastic tail wags and frantic search for a gift never fail to lift Westerfield’s spirits.

“It’s such a sweet gesture,” Westerfield shared with Newsweek. “She’s always so happy to see me, and she’s determined to bring me something, no matter what it is.” Mango’s eclectic collection of offerings includes everything from Barbies to Pez dispensers, from wrappers to plastic forks.
