Heartbreaking Video Shows Dog on 1st Day at Shelter vs. 401st Day

Great Dane in Shelter

Moose is a Great Dane mix who has spent over 400 days at Benton Franklin Humane Society in Washington State. A video posted to a volunteer at the shelter’s TikTok account shows the large dog’s heartbreaking change during his long stay. The shelter volunteer, Julie Saraceno, says that Moose’s demeanor has changed over his time at the shelter.

According to Saraceno, Moose is so excited to have visitors and receive attention and has become sadder when it is time for his friends to go. Moose is ready to go home to his forever family. Hopefully, the perfect one is out there for him. Moose would prefer to be in a home where he is the only large dog but may be fine with a small dog or puppy.

The shelter environment is incredibly stressful for many dogs. Unfortunately, many wonderful dogs enter shelters through no fault of their own. Once there, it can be difficult for them to find the perfect family. Large dogs, senior dogs, and Pit Bull breeds can have an especially hard time finding forever homes.
