Apparently, the death of at least five innocent bulls is not a big deal … at least, that is what the Professional Bull Riders Association of Australia seems to think. Last year, one bull was put down after snapping its leg while trying to get up from an awkward position. The most recent deaths occurred at the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo in Queensland – the largest rodeo in Australia that claimed the lives of both a steer and a buck on the same day.
What makes the whole situation even worse is that the Australian government actually funds this ridiculous excuse for entertainment. Rodeos are one of the cruelest “sports” to ever exist, and the number of deaths don’t even begin to scratch the surface of what these animals endure.
Devices like electric prods are used to get bulls to rear and buck, spiked metal spurs on the riders’ boots dig into the animals’ sensitive sides to elicit a reaction, whips are used on horses, often causing injury, and flank straps are tied so tightly around the animals’ bellies that they cause extreme discomfort and pain.
Clearly, this cruelty should not only be an embarrassment to the Australian government, it also needs to be stopped! Sign the petition set up by the Care2 petition team to tell them that using government funds (rather, taxpayer money) for this horrific torture is a disgrace — it’s time to shut down the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo for good.
Rodeo organizers and associations work hard at fooling spectators into believing the animals are having fun, that they are “athletes,” but the truth is, these animals are silently suffering and need our help to end it.
All forms of animal exploitation for human entertainment are cruel. It rips innocent animals from their natural environments and forces them into a life of servitude, abuse, neglect, and suffering. Please take a moment to add your name to the petition and share it with your network. All animals deserve a life free from human greed that puts profits before innocent life.

Nothing in rodeos should harm animals, at all. Riding, OK. Roping, not OK.
